WORKPACK 3: Still Life

UNDERSTANDING SHADING

This workpack consists of the following items:

1. LESSON PLAN: DEFINING AREAS OF LIGHT AND SHADE – Spheres

An introduction to understanding and identifying the primary lightsource, areas of shade, and shadows in a photograph. The learner is encouraged to use these shading skills to complete a worksheet.

The lesson plan includes:

• Teacher’s guide and lesson plan
• Learners’ worksheet to complete
• Photographic example for teacher file
• Rubric to allocate marks for completed work

2. LESSON PLAN: DEFINING AREAS OF LIGHT AND SHADE – Green Peppers

This is an extension of the previous lesson. Learners are given a “breakdown image” in which they appropriately shade the defined areas.

The lesson plan includes:

• Teacher’s guide and lesson plan
• Learners’ worksheet to complete
• Photographic example for teacher file
• Rubric to allocate marks for completed work

3. LESSON PLAN: STILL LIFE WITH FIGURINES

This lesson completes the module on Still Life. An example of a suitable arrangement is provided that the learners can complete. The use of Landscape and Portrait orientation of paper is also discussed.

4. POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS

• Still Life – Concise, easy to follow visual presentations with text and images to reinforce the concept of Still Life Art
• Balance and Symmetry – A short presentation defining the concepts and use of balance and symmetry in Art

• Setting up the classroom and seating plans for a Still Life class.
