LOCAL CRAFT AND CRAFTERS: Term Assessment – Term 2 Workpack 4

Local Craft and Crafters  – Term Assessment

We’ve taken out some of the legwork needed for this Term’s Formal Assessment.

Research Material: find information on two potteries in South Africa – Ardmore Ceramics and Mukondeni Pottery, with background information on the people who created them and the crafts they produce.

An easy-to-understand section on the process of modern pottery-making is included as well as useful links to YouTube videos and e-book chapters for teachers and learners who want to know more about the subject.

The assessment is divided into two parts:

  • A written component – in the form of a questionnaire on the contents of the Crafters Project: Part 1 (includes a Memo for marking ease).
  •  A design component where the learner is asked to design and draw suitable decorations for a serving plate. Design references are included to assist the visualization process. A Teacher’s guide explains the design method. A template and rubric is included.

A concise, easy-to-follow Powerpoint visual presentation: South African Crafts and Crafters looks at different types of traditional crafts produced locally, such as basket making, pottery, and beadwork. It provides useful background information for the Term assessment.
